First of all, hello to everyone from the friending meme! So glad to have met all of you on that post, you guys are awesome. I have an intro post that desperately needs updating, now that I think about it. And my layout could use a little shakeup as well; I might switch to a cooler green or blue. I've been all over those two colors as of late. What colors do you all end up using a lot, regardless of where it's being used? I might find some interesting combinations from here.

Also, it just occurred to me how normal it is for me now to wake up either six or seven in the morning. A week ago it's be two or three hours later than that; kinda understandable, considering the studio work hasn't poured in in that time and I'd been sleeping rather late. Possible sign that my sleep cycle's shifted again? I don't know, but if it were that easy to affect the cycle, I'd like to sleep earlier, thank you very much.

But I do see where they come from when they say you're at your most creative when it's late at night--well, most of the time.

Lastly, I had just found out there's a new season of Hell's Kitchen (yep, I watch for the food as well--and then the freakouts; Gordon Ramsay's struggle is just so real sometimes you have to feel for him). All I can think of is BRING ON THE CARNAGE.

My thread's linked in the pic. C'mon guys, let's all get back into the swing of things! I know I will.

And this post is to officiate that I had only gotten into Doctor Who last year, and I must say that the Ninth Doctor had such a brief stint but so far he's becoming my favorite (Tenth and Eleventh considered; I know I'm going to be shot for that now). But yeah, that's my new fandom now. Fantastic.

I Don't Get It (small)
Let me talk to you briefly about Mr. Peabody and Sherman because it is adorable and Sherman is such a cutie and I couldn't resist making art of the movie.

Basically, the puns are strong with this movie, and Dreamworks really does it well, loading you up with so much emotion towards the cast right from the start. Bravo. And as someone who loves history and alternate history, this movie gave me so much life in those regards.

If this movie does well and they consider making it into a TV series, you know I'll be all over that.

In conclusion? If you haven't seen it yet, DO ITTTTTTTT~

So I realize I've been rather quiet on here again. Things have been moving in full swing for me after graduation. Finding another job, pressing on with the background coloring job, finishing some stuff in college (officially an alumni now!), among many things.

As of now, my biggest project is that nonexistent portfolio that I'm going to build up on. I've really got nothing else to show other than my thesis and some school stuff. And see all these stories I have, well, they've been meaning to have some art set to them. I've some free time on the side, so I'll manage that.

See now, I really do miss this place. At the moment I've just been lurking around, not really making an effort to blog some more or catch up with others. I don't know how many times I've said this, but I'm still going to try and make that effort to be more active on here.

First things first--I'm an official graduate!
[Pic under the cut!]----
(I really wish I could've worn this viking hat I bought in a toy store to graduation--ah well, in another lifetime.)

But yeah, after four years with all sorts of experiences and wonderful people, it's finally here. Things happen fast, really; I still have the finals I did for the first term of the first year. And then thesis rolls by.

I sound as if this all happened decades ago, don't I? But it's just striking how everything seems like a compressed amount of time in hindsight.

So what happens now after college? Well, that's the other thing--I'm looking for a second job now. Freelance or otherwise, I'm going for it. Two jobs will be an adventure, and I'm all up for it. At the same time, there's a portfolio waiting to be built, so the jobs will help on that, I'm sure.

Everything else that might happen after this month--well, we'll see! But I'm just glad that I'm finally here--though it's not easy, job hunting, you can never tell what'll happen next.

....Well. Didn't mean to go so long without updating this journal, sorry everyone.

But I've found a bit of a muse in the show Rick and Morty. If you guys haven't watched it yet, you might need to. Think of it as Back to the Future meets Futurama on lots of alcohol. Lots.

I've been making so much fanart of it as of late, as you can see. Now, though, I've found a bit of a balance between fandom and my own stuff, and I will finish that 100 Characters Challenge one way or another.

So I've set a schedule--I'll be posting stuff related to that meme every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. And since I sometimes post more than one character, I guess I'm all set. As for the rest of the week, I've got to sort that out, too.

But yeah, it's already February, and it's time to get things into full swing. I hit a bit of a rut a few weeks back, but pulling myself out would be the best course of action.

...I think it's been long overdue, but I'll be opening up art commissions soon. I've been planning this thing for years now (three, actually), and while I already have a job, I can't see the harm in doing commissions.

Herein the problem lies of putting a price tag on art. It's still a prevalent mindset for me that no one would pay X amount of money for my work--so I settle with the mediocre, or worse, subpar prices. It stems back to an even worse mindset that says I'm not ready for this sort of thing. No contacts, no skills, not ready at all. That, dear friends, is the limbo I'm stuck in at the moment.

To anyone who's doing art commissions/freelance work out there, what do you think? As much as the temptation of diving right in presents itself as quite appealing, all these preconceptions/mindsets aren't exactly healthy. How do you deal with these things?

So, I sort of let the whole 100 Characters thing go stagnant. Okay, I've let it go for a bit, but rest assured I'm still working on it. I've hit a bit of what I'd like to call an "uphill phase" with some characters. That is, I'm developing a backstory/some general info about them at a slow-and-steady pace. But I would like to finish this challenge. Heck, I promised myself that if I can get past 25, I'll add in one or two (or more!) characters. Yep, those 100 characters? They aren't all of the characters I've written thus far.

That I'll resume a little later. Now, for my reading list. New Year's eve, I promised myself I'd make an effort to finish more books. There's an unhealthy imbalance in me buying more books while I finish, what, eight or ten books in one year? (That's not the actual number, though I figure it might be around those lines). So this is the year I make an effort to read more.

And I'd just finished a novel. Well, technically started it last month and finished it this week. Take a guess what it is before you click that cut?
Had a guess already?Collapse )
Lastly, just to give myself some motivation to blog more, I'm going to try out something called freeblogging. Basically free writing, but in blog form. Let's see how things pan out from here, but I foresee a lot of nonsensical silliness in the future. I hope that doesn't irk you at all. ;P

Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you guys have a safe one and may this year be an awesome one for all of us!

As for me, my entire family had a huge midnight snack to celebrate 2014 coming around--it's a thing here, apart from the barrage of fireworks. Midnight snacks are quite popular on New Year's Eve ;P

So I've made an index post for the 100 Characters meme, and a bit of a list for 2014 as well (books to read, movies to watch, and other stuff). I'll probably be posting more than one character tonight, but I'm definitely going to get things moving from there. I can't wait to see everyone else's OCs!

So I started biking around our neighborhood again. The last time I did this was, what, a month or two ago? I know that it's a rather long time not to do it again, and I've committed to using my bicycle more this coming 2014--among other things. But I will say, there's something to be said about getting lost in your own neighborhood. It's a huge neighborhood, and I've discovered all sorts of dead ends, uphill, and downhill paths that are perfect to navigate through next time.

In short, I'm surprised I hadn't committed to this earlier on, but now I am.

Some of the other stuff I've planned out for 2014--I've finally taken to reading all the books I've bought but left sitting on the shelf for a long while now. Actually, I'll put together a list tomorrow, along with some other stuff I'm planning to read/watch/what have you. Along with probably a few other New Year's resolutions, too.

And picking this up from rustydragonfly, I'm also going to do something called the 100 Characters meme. Basically, you post an original character of yours everyday, with a blurb/description about him/her/it, among other things if you want. Considering I've been wanting to keep track of the characters I create, and that I do like creating more (to the point where I have trouble keeping track of them at times; it's kind of cyclical, you see), this meme caters to my interest more than you can imagine. Actually, I have done this before, except I got too ambitious and went for a thousand. And--well, I reached past 50 (that isn't the entirety of what I've written, actually, but it's most of it) and never got past it. 100 it is for now.

So, anyone else want to join in on the challenge? I definitely would love to read up on other people's OCs :)

So first of all, a very, very late Merry Christmas to all of you! I've been busy this entire year--busy juggling parties, among other things. It's a thing here that you get to go to five or more Christmas parties in one month--you've got parties with friends, with cousins, with friends of cousins--and so on and so forth.

Also, I'm happy to say that I've got a job now! It's a British animation studio that outsourced here, and at the moment I'm on layout duty--basically, they give us the lineart for the backgrounds, and we're the ones coloring them. It's as a good start as anything, and learning different art styles is half the fun.

Basically all that's left is to prepare for 2014. One of my resolutions is to be more active with blogging in general. Actually, I have a thousand things I need to be more active in (communities and what not), but I digress. So what's everyone else's New Year's resolutions, if any?

(also I'm hoping for some sort of New Year's friending meme; that'll give me an excuse to blog more--to get to know people more, y'know?)
